Things to Consider

There are lots of funeral planning considerations to make, and we understand that this can be stressful. To help you, we’ve provided a basic list of funeral considerations for those in Ongar, Shelley, Marden Ash and the surrounding areas.

Type of service

There are a range of service types we offer, from burials to cremations. You should also consider whether you would like a religious or non-religious service.

Date/Venue

Select the date of the funeral and where you would like it to be held. We have our own private chapel which can be made available.

Coffin/Casket

Choose from a range of coffins and caskets – from the ornate to the more modest and simple. We can offer you a selection of coffins from hardwood and mahogany, as well as more bespoke options if desired.

Order of Service

You can decide on the order of the service – including hymns, readings, songs and other special tributes – or we can help you create this based on our experience.

Music

If you know a particular piece of music meant a lot to your loved one, we can help arrange for this to be part of the service.

Flowers and Donations

Many people like to send flowers or bring them to the service in order to pay their respects. We can put you in touch with local florists, or you can arrange for donations to be made to a charity of your choosing in place of floral arrangements.

Transport

Transport can be arranged to collect the close family of the deceased and travel to the funeral service location. This can be standard transport or you might wish to explore more themed transport options if your loved one had a particular passion you wish to express.

Wake

After the service, it is common to hold a wake at a different location where friends, family and anyone wishing to pay their respects can gather. This offers a chance to reflect on cherished memories together and is often held somewhere with food and drink can be provided such as a restaurant, pub or at a designated home of a mourner where arranged.
